Overthinking is Killing Your Social Strategy
Do you desire to be social media’s next Duolingo or Gary Vaynerchuk, to gain immense influence and money, to become a leader in your field?
The surprisingly simple reason you aren't seeing the social media success you desire is that you're thinking way too much.
Overthinking Kills Execution
Not only is obsessing over perfection preventing content publishing, but it’s also impacting confidence.
This manifests in:
Too many cooks in the approval kitchen
Over-editing and second-guessing
Shooting down ideas before they’re tested
Stunting creativity with overrationalization
Fear of judgement (from your boss, peers, trolls)
Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
Overthinking doesn’t just delay posting, it chips away at your team’s confidence and stunts performance. You’ll see it in slow output, content that plays it safe, and flat analytics.
If you want to stop overthinking from slowing down your strategy, start with due diligence. Implement a system that protects the brand and prioritizes the strategic goals so your content (and social team) can breathe.
Create a Content Safety Matrix that allows content review to be more intentional and less subjective.
Include questions like:
Will this hurt the brand’s integrity?
Could posting this hurt the company’s reputation?
Has the response been problematic?
What’s the origin and response to this trend?
Could posting this damage our reputation or come off as tone-deaf?
If the answer is no across the board, let it go live. If there’s a maybe or a yes, collaborate instead of cancelling. That’s how you build trust and speed.
Trust Drives Better Content
Implementing a process to vet content from a strategic level will help silence the overthinking and instead empower your team and results.
You’ll see the team and yourself stop hesitating and instead move forward on more output. The content going out will become stronger and more creative.
